Filippo Galgani

Filippo Galgani was born in Siena in 1970. From an early age attracted by the Sienese handcrafted creations in gold and silver worked, he enrolled at the Duccio di Buoninsegna Art Institute in Siena and in 1989 graduated as a master of art. In these years he met the master Armando Basile and became a shop boy at his foundry. With bronze he begins his personal search for the “fragment” and its aesthetics while, thanks to repeated trips to India, he enriches his own artistic and spiritual experience. The meeting with his old friend the sculptor Piergiorgio Balocchi was decisive: Galgani enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and attended his courses, creating the first large marble sculptures. He graduated in 2003 and began exhibiting in Pietrasanta and Florence. In 2006 he exhibited in Switzerland at the Triennale BadRagaz and in 2011 the collaboration with the B.V. Art Gallery started. A multifaceted artist with remarkable skills, he works with different materials, from wood to white Carrara or yellow Siena marble, from copper to concrete, sculpting, shaping, melting, to the point of creating dialogues of extraordinary balance and achieving results of extreme purity and depth. Inextricably linked to his land, he manages to bring the Tuscan landscape into sculpture in an inimitable way. Its night vision cypresses, symbols of this wonderful land, are unique works, sculpted with finesse and sensitivity. The cottages with clean and pure cuts summarize the authenticity of the old farmhouses immersed in the Tuscan countryside. Artist of masterful qualities and techniques, with an ever fresh and current vision, he represents an excellence in the Sienese and Italian sculptural panorama.
