Davide Dall’Osso

Davide Dall’Osso was born in Pesaro in 1966. After measuring himself with various forms of art, he finds his primary form of expression in sculpture which leads him to deal with national and international realities, through installations, exhibitions and collaborations. He graduated as a prose actor at the Paolo Grassi Civic School of Dramatic Arts in Milan in 1995.

After his studies he collaborates with the Colombian director Enrique Vargas with whom he experiments with sculpture as a means of creative expression.

In 1997 he was selected with a scholarship for the “Advanced course for professional actors” held by Luca Ronconi at the Teatro Argentina in Rome. Here as a prose actor he works with various directors: Piero Maccarinelli, Enrique Vargas, Carlos Martin, Thierry Salmon, Alfredo Arias, Mauro Avogadro and Luca Ronconi. It is precisely in the shows by Piero Maccarinelli and Enrique Vargas, where the directors create an alchemy between the different arts on stage, that Davide Dall’Osso recognizes a belonging that will take him in a short time from the acting art to the sculptural one, and that in 2002 he will be selected together with a group of six sculptors from the Marches with the work “Elogio alla fuga” which will be exhibited in Piazza Olivieri in Pesaro.

The passion for theatre, for dance and for the visual arts immediately led him to choose the contamination of languages, stimulating him to undertake a study of the body, space and matter.

Theater and especially the work done on the large installations of Enrique Vargas traveling shows, inspired him to use sculpture as a means of creative expression.

From the beginning he has been mainly interested in the possibility of creating a key to understanding the spirituality of contemporary man through sculpture. This aspect will characterize his entire artistic career.

His material research moves parallel to his creation. The artist has an instinctive figurative ability, which immediately leads him to create life-size human and animal figures. In particular, it is the figure of the horse that strikes its expressiveness. Indeed, in the strong physicality of the horse, the artist recognizes the “spiritual impulses” of the man of his time. The first horses are made of clay and resin, and it is during this process that the artist takes a first step towards the search for new materials. The structures that must be created to support the clay which, once modeled, will become sculpture, are made of a real skeleton in rods, iron wire and metal mesh.

From this moment he begins to make large horses in metal wire completely hand-woven.

In addition to wire, the artist creates his works in cast polycarbonate. This technique, invented by him, allows him to work using the industrial waste of this plastic polymer, for an idea of green and circular economy. The metal wire weaving technique and the polycarbonate fusion sometimes meet in suggestive and dramatic works, as if the material itself of these works could tell itself beyond the sense of realization.

In 2014 together with his wife Maria Vittoria Gozio he opened the Atelier Dall’Osso.

The collaboration with the Biale Cerruti Art Gallery began in 2012. In 2018 the public exhibition “E’ tempo di mettersi in ascolto” was organized in Siena, curated by Maurizio Vanni in the space of Palazzo Patrizi. The artist exhibited with the Art Gallery in 2016 at the contemporary art fair Affordable Art Fair in Brussels, and in 2022, in collaboration with the Art Gallery, the major exhibition in Sicily “In un mondo perfetto” is held at the Castello Maniace in Ortigia edited by Maria Vittoria Gozio and Elena Violetti.

Transparency, passage of light, metamorphosis are the main components of Dall’Osso’s sculptural language.

The sculptures are made both in polycarbonate and mixing materials such as iron, copper, bronze, resin, iron wire, wire mesh.

Among the main events of his career we can mention:
